
Mounties Beat Mystics, Finish First in ACAA
(Sackville, NB) The Mount Saint Vincent Mystics were in Sackville on Saturday to take on the Mount Allison Mounties in ACAA Women's Volleyball action.
The Mystics came out hot in the first set, scoring 7 of the first 10 points. Cela MacLellan had a kill, followed by a block from Sarah Ryan for MSVU to get the game started. The Mounties responded with kills by Emma Burns and Marie Fogarty off timely sets from Logan Tait. The Mounties took control the rest of the set, capped off by an ace from Fogarty to win the set 25-20 and go up 1 set to 0.
MacLellan got the Mystics going early in the second set with a kill and a quick ace. Mount Allison responded with multiple kills from Ana McCain. Julia Henry kept the momentum going for the Mounties with a kill off a nice set from Monica Gollaher. Hailey Nason had a kill of her own for the Mystics to stop the momentum briefly. Mount A finished the set off on a kill from Lily Johnson off an assist from Tait. The Mounties won the second set 25-11, taking a 2 sets to 0 lead.
The Mounties kept it going in the third frame with three straight points from Marie Fogarty, including an ace to open the set. MSVU responded with a kill from Seven McHatten. The set went back and forth as both teams had multiple service errors. The Mounties pulled away late thanks to some timely kills from Erica Astephen set up by Tait. Mount Allison won set three 25-16 to take the match 3 sets to 0.
Mount Saint Vincent (12-7) is back on the road tomorrow against St. Thomas to close out their regular season, first serve is at 11:00am. Mount Allison (17-3) has completed their regular season and will now prepare for the ACAA Volleyball Championships at Holland College next weekend.
