
Mounties Beat Seawolves in Battle for First Place
(Sackville, NB) In their first home game since the winter break, the Mount Allison Mounties took on the visiting UNBSJ Seawolves in a battle of 10-1 teams.
The Mounties got off to a quick start taking the first set 25-22. Leading the way for Mount Allison was Emma Burns, who had several kills to slow down the Seawolves momentum. Dominique Gendron was able to keep the set close with back-to-back kills for UNBSJ, bringing the set to 21-20 before the Mounties were eventually able to rack up the final five points in a row to win the set.
The second set was back and forth with both teams struggling to stack points. Seawolf Sydney Flower was able to force the Mounties to spend a timeout mid-set after a big block followed by a kill. Mount A was able to find their footing thanks to a few massive points from Marie Fogarty. The Mounties took the second set 25-22.
The Seawolves took control of the third set early and didn't look back. After three errors in a row from the Mounties, UNBSJ was able to eventually put the set away 25-22 after an outstanding kill from Sasha Buchanan.
Mount Allison found their rhythm once again in the fourth set. Led by the power of Emma Burns and Marie Fogarty at the net, with some outstanding setting from Logan Tait, the Mounties were able to score three of the last four points to win the set 25-16, and the game 3 sets to 1.
Next on the schedule for the Seawolves (10-2) is a home game against USTA on Saturday, January 18th, with the first serve set for 6:00pm. The Mounties (11-1) are back on the court Saturday, January 18th against MSVU, first serve is at 3:00pm.
