Mounties Overcome Hurricanes in 3 Sets
The Mount Allison Mounties women's volleyball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, still undefeated at home, and playing host to the visiting Holland Hurricanes.
It would be Holland that would come out the more aggressive team at the start of the first set, leading by as many as 4 at 17-13 before a 7-point surge led by the service of Emma Burns would flip the script on the set and eventually give the Mounties the win by a score of 25-20.
The second set would bring much of the same back and forth action as the first, with neither team leading by more than three points in the set. Holland would have the Mounties on the brink 24-23, but a service error would give the Mounties another chance and the Mounties would take the next two points to give them the 2-0 lead, 26-24.
Set 3 would see the teams tied at 15 before a 4-point rally spurred by multiple kills from Julia Henry would swing the set in Mount Allison's favour as the home side would win in straight sets, 25-21.
Mount Allison (6-1) are back in action tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, November 24th against the Dal Rams in Truro with first serve set for 2:00pm. Holland (5-3) continue their road trip with a visit to UNB Saint John tomorrow to take on the Seawolves, with first serve set for 1:00pm.
