Mounties Tame Blue Devils in 3 Sets
The Mount Allison Mounties women's volleyball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon, where they have yet to lose a set this season, to play host to the UKC Blue Devils.
Mount Allison would get off to a strong 6-3 start and force an early timeout from UKC and would continue strong play through the first set led by Marie Fogarty to lead 18-8. The Blue Devils would come within 6 points, but the Mounties would take the first set 25-18.
UKC would lead a tight second set 15-12 before a timeout from Mount Allison would spark a 4-point rally from the Mounties and change the momentum of the set. The teams would trade leads and battle back and forth to a 23-21 UKC lead before another 4-point rally sparked by Emma Burns would swing the set in the home team's favour and the Mounties would go ahead 2-0.
The third set would go back and forth as neither team could establish more than a 3-point advantage until the Mounties would lead late in the set 16-12. Strong serving from Julia Henry down the stretch would seal the win for Mount Allison, and the Mounties continued their unbeaten streak at home while not losing a set for the fourth straight match on home court.
Mount Allison (5-1) return to action at home on Saturday, November 23rd against the Holland Hurricanes with first serve set for 12:00pm. UKC (3-2) will also be back on the court on Saturday the 23rd against the UNBSJ Seawolves on the road in Saint John, first serve is set for 4:00pm.
