Mounties Streak to Eight with Win over Dal AC
The Mount Allison Mounties women's volleyball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon as they played host to the Dalhousie AC Rams, looking for their second win of the weekend after a five-set win over St. Thomas yesterday evening.
The visiting Rams would take a back and forth first set 25-23 off strong play from Ashley Rideout and unforced errors from the Mounties down the stretch.
After a controversial call that gave the Rams set point at 24-23, the Mounties would rally for three straight points, including back-to-back kills from Erica Astephen, to take the set and even the match at 1 apiece.
The Mounties were in control from there as they used the momentum from the second set, and multiple service aces from Emma Burns, to take a 2-1 lead, winning the third set by a score of 25-18.
Dal AC would not go away quietly however as they led for the majority of the fourth set and withstood a Mountie run in the late going thanks to clutch kills from Maryn McCoombs to take the set 26-24 and even the match at 2, forcing a fifth and deciding set.
The teams would switch ends with the score at 8-7 in favour of the Mounties, and the home side would go on a run led by Emma Burns to close the match 15-12 and improve to 10-2 this season.
Mount Allison (10-2) are back in action on the road in Halifax on Saturday, January 27th against the first place UKC Blue Devils with first serve set for 2:00pm. Dal AC (4-7) return to action at home in Truro, also on the 27th, as they welcome the Holland Hurricanes with first serve set for 2:00pm.
