Mounties Defeat Seawolves in Five Set Thriller
The Mount Allison Mounties were back in the McCormack Gymnasium for the second time in as many nights as they welcomed the UNBSJ Seawolves to Sackville on Saturday afternoon in front of a passionate Mounties crowd.
Both teams took turns trading runs in the first frame, but it was the home Mounties, tied at 19-19, that would go on a 6-0 run thanks to multiple clutch service aces from Erica Astephen to close the set and take a 1-0 lead.
The visiting Seawolves would respond however as they would use a strong second half to the set to even the match at 1 apiece, taking the second frame by a score of 25-22.
The home Mounties bounced back with a very strong showing in the third set as they were fully in control for the duration of the frame, led by Logan Tait, taking a 2-1 lead off a 25-14 set win.
UNBSJ would retaliate with a dominant set of their own, led by multiple kills from Dominique Gendron, forcing the match to a fifth and deciding set with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.
Mount Allison would not be denied on their homecourt however as they defended the McCormack Gymnasium by taking the fifth set decisively, 15-6.
Mount Allison (8-2) are back in action on Saturday, January 20th on the road against St. Thomas with first serve set for 2:00pm. UNBSJ (2-8) are back on their home floor tomorrow, January 14th, as they play host to the Crandall Chargers, with first serve set for 2:00pm.
