Mounties Outlast Chargers in Four Sets
The Mount Allison Mounties women's volleyball team was back in action on Friday night at the McCormack Gymnasium, fresh off the December break and an appearance at the Adidas Cup at Durham College, as they welcomed the Crandall Chargers to Sackville.
The Mounties got off to a hot start in the first set as they took the 1-0 lead over Crandall with a 25-15 set win thanks to clutch points from Marie Fogarty and Logan Tait.
The visiting Chargers would bounce back in the second set as they fought through a back-and-forth set and survived a Mounties set point at 26-25 to even the match 1-1 with a 28-26 score line. Hailey Legacy and Kallie Woodworth helped to lead the way for Crandall to keep the match close.
Mount Allison would avenge the second set with a strong, come-from-behind performance in the third set. Trailing by as many as 7 points, strong serving by Emma Burns helped the Mounties even the set and eventually win it by a score of 25-22.
The home Mounties would close the festivities with a 26-24 win in the fourth set, surviving a Crandall set point at 24-23 and taking advantage of service and attack errors at the end of the match from the Chargers.
Mount Allison (7-2) are back in action tomorrow, January 13th, at the McCormack Gymnasium as they take on the UNBSJ Seawolves with first serve for 4:00pm. Crandall (3-6) return to the court on Sunday as they travel to Saint John to also take on the Seawolves, first serve for that match is scheduled for 2:00pm.
