Mounties Win 5-Set Thriller over Rams
(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties women's volleyball team was back on home court at the McCormack Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon as they played hosted to the Dalhousie AC Rams, looking for their 4th straight victory.
The visiting Rams would start strong, battling from as many as six points down midway through the first set to take the back-and-forth fight by a score of 25-23.
The second set brought even more exciting rallies and runs from both sides as the Rams led by 7 midway through the second set with the Mounties clawing back to within one point but were unable to get closer than that as the Rams would take the second set 25-22.
Down 2 sets to none, the home Mounties would find their rhythm midway through the third set, overcoming a three-point Ram lead to win the set by six, 25-19.
The fourth set brought more back-and-forth action as the Mounties held just a two-point 17-15 lead before breaking out during the final points of the set to take the fourth by a score of 25-17 and push this match to a fifth and deciding set.
Both squads traded points throughout the fifth set, but it was the home Mounties who would come away with the 15-12 victory with the final kill coming from Chloe Nichols. Top performers for the Mounties were Emma Burns and Chloe Nichols with 23 and 17 kills respectively. Callie Immerkar and Maryn McCoombs led the way for the Rams with 13 and 11 kills of their own.
Mount Allison enter the holiday break at 6-2 and will play their next regular season match on Friday, January 12th at home against the Crandall Chargers with first serve set for 7:00pm. Dal AC (3-6) are back in action at home on Sunday, January 14th against the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons with first serve set for 6:00pm.
