Mounties give up three first period goals, fall to Dal

(Halifax, NS) - The Dalhousie Tigers three-goal first period lifts them to a win over the Mount Allison Mounties 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Forum.

The Tigers opened up the scoring on the power play, getting on the board at 14:06.
 
Annika Rose (North Vancouver, BC) received the puck in the Mounties zone before firing a shot towards net. Ashley Money (Langton, ON) showed great skill, tipping the puck past Keri Martin (Brampton, ON) and into the back of the net.
 
The Tigers continued to forecheck hard as they looked to increase their lead.
 
Dalhousie forward Courtney Sheedy (Orangeville, ON) had a great short-handed opportunity as she moved in on a two-on-one before firing a shot that was saved by Martin.
 
The Tigers added to their lead in the closing minutes of the first frame. Captain Lisa Maclean (Inverness, NS) received the pass from Danika Phillips (Barrie, ON) before snapping a quick shot from the slot, which beat Martin.
 
Just 0:34 later the Tigers widened their lead to 3-0.
 
A great move to the backhand from Elizabeth MacArthur allowed her to raise the puck over the right pad of Martin. The short-handed marker was MacArthur's 6th goal of the year.
 
The first period ended 3-0 in favor of Dalhousie.
 
The Tigers carried their first period momentum into the second frame, wasting no time to add to their lead.
 
Victoria MacIntosh (Hammonds Plains, NS) fired a shot from the point where Courtney Sheedy was waiting on the doorstep to tap in the rebound.
 
Despite the deficit the Mounties continued to push to get on the board.
 
Heather Richards (St. Anthony, NL) got the Mounties first of the game half way through the middle frame with a power play goal, assisted by Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) and Caitlin McCabe (Renous, NB).
 
The Mounties continued to put pressure on the Tigers.
 
Just 0:21 later the Mounties closed the gap to 4-2 with an even strength goal.

A long stretch pass from Emily Murphy sprung Bell on the breakaway where she fired the puck off the post and in, beating Jessica Severeyns (Hammonds Plains, NS) for her 5th goal of the year.  

The Tigers responded well to the Mounties second goal. They took back control of the game with a beautiful goal from Tara Morning (Aurora, ON).
 
A falling Morning fired a top shelf rocket past Martin. The goal was assisted by Lisa Maclean.
 
The goal filled second period ended 5-2 in favor of the Tigers.
 
Both teams came out flying into the third period. Back and forth action resulted in generated chances for both teams, but both Severeyns and Martin made a number of spectacular saves to keep the game at 5-2.
 
The Tigers put the game away 9:15 into the third period. 

Her 4th point of the night, Lisa Maclean rushed the puck the full length of the ice, beating two defenders before driving the net and burying the puck top shelf.

With the win the Dahousie Tigers improve to 4-14-1, while the Mount Allison Mounties fall to 3-15-1.
 
The Tigers next game is away against the Saint Mary's Huskies January 22, while the Mounties host the UPEI Panthers January 22.
