Sackville, NB – The St. Thomas Tommies faced a tough AUS Women's hockey battle against the Mount Allison Mounties for two and a half periods Saturday night at Sackville's Tantramar Veterans' Memorial Civic Centre before taking a 5-3 road victory.
For the Tommies, the win snapped a 3 game losing streak while the Mounties endured their 12th straight loss.
The teams traded goals in the first period; St. Thomas led 3-2 after 40 minutes and the squads were tied at 3-3 until halfway through the third.
Danielle Ring (Saint John, NB) and Becky Connor (East St. Paul, MB) each had a pair of goals for the Tommies while Lauren Henman (Cow Bay, NS) added a singleton.
The Mounties notched a goal in each frame of the game, Heather Richards (St. Anthony, NL) in the first and Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) with one in each of the second and third periods.
Abby Clarke (Springdale, NL) saved 36 of 39 for St. Thomas while Keri Martin turned back 24 of 29 in the Mountie cage.
The win leap-frogged St. Thomas back into first place over the St. Mary's Huskies in the AUS standings with a 16-3-2 record while the Mounties remain in 7th at 3-17-1.
Up next for Mount Allison is an away game at Université de Moncton - Sunday, February 5 at 2pm while the Tommies host St. Mary's Huskies - Friday, February 3 at 7pm.
