The Mount Allison Mounties hosted the UPEI Panthers in the Atlantic Conference's opening game of the 2016-17 AUS Women's hockey season at the Tantramar Veterans' Memorial Civic Centre (TVMCC) in Sackville Friday night.
The visiting UPEI squad handed the Mounties a 5-1 defeat.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period on goals from Maria Clinton and Cornelia Geib. After 40 minutes, the score was 2-1 after Mounties forward Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) halved the score when she singed the twine 40 seconds into the frame.
UPEI scored three unanswered markers in the 3rd off the sticks of Geib with her second of the match, Sydnee Baker and Faith Steeves.
Marie-Soleil Deschenes took the win between the pipes for the Panthers while Keri Martin and Lindsay Wray shared the loss for the Mounties. UPEI outshot the Mounties 38-35 on the contest.
Next up for Mount Allison is a home game versus Dalhousie Tigers - Sunday, 16 October at 2pm.
