Mounties Beat Saint Mary's 1-0 to Push Within 1 Point of the Playoffs

Mackenzie Lalonde's 11th goal of the season on the power play in the 2nd period was the difference in a close fought 1-0 Mounties victory over Saint Mary's in Sackville on Saturday night.
The win was critical for the Mounties who are battling for the final playoff spot in AUS Women's Hockey. With the win, the Mounties move to within 1 point of 6th place UPEI and within 2 points of 5th place Dalhousie. Both UPEI and Mount Allison have 2 games remaining while Dalhousie will play 3 more times before season's end.
After a scoreless 1st period, the Mounties struck with the only goal of the game on the power play at 9:15 of the second period. Lalonde scored on a one timer off a perfect feed from Kara Anthony. 5th year Mountie Megan Cameron also picked up an assist on the play.
Mounties goaltenders Kate O'Brien and Keri Martin combined to make 30 saves in the shutout. O'Brien made 25 saves in a strong performance before being forced out of the game on a hit by Nicole Blanche. Blanche received a major for goaltender interference on the play. Martin came in to finish the game for the Mounties and made five saves to complete the shutout for the home side. Rebecca Weagle made 28 saves on 29 shots for the Huskies.
The Mounties return to action on Wednesday, February 4th when they host St. Thomas before finishing the season with a home game against Dalhousie on February 11th. The Huskies return to action on Friday, February 6th when they play cross town rival Dalhousie.
