
Mounties Hold Off Seawolves
(Sackville, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves were in Sackville on Saturday for the first half of a back-to-back with the Mount Allison Mounties in ACAA Women's Basketball.
Ainsley Green got off to a hot start for the Seawolves with quick three and a layup two. Katie Feasby answered for the Mounties with five quick points of her own. Both teams got into a flow on offense and at the end of the quarter the Mounties were up 23-21.
The second quarter was as evenly played as the first. Kate Griffin knocked down three shots for UNBSJ to give them a 2-point lead early. Jillian Mumford got it going for the Mounties with six points of her own, to go along with five rebounds in the quarter. Turnovers and defense carried the rest of the quarter as scoring slowed. The quarter ended with Mount A up 37-35.
The second half was a little uneven and sloppy for both sides. Green led the way for the visiting side with 5 defensive boards. Mumford was equal to the task for the Mounties with 4 defensive rebounds of her own. The quarter ended 9-7 for the visitors, making the score after three quarters 44-44.
The fourth quarter saw the offense return for both sides. Bailey Henderson knocked down a pair of shots for UNBSJ to take the lead. Emma Roberts responded for Mount A with back-to-back baskets of her own, she finished the quarter with 8 points. Ainsley Green found her scoring touch once again as well adding 6 more points. The difference in the game came down to a made free throw for the Mounties by Emma Roberts, and a missed jump shot for the Seawolves as the clock hit zero. The final score was 59-58 for Mount Allison.
UNBSJ (2-15) are back in Sackville tomorrow to complete the regular season against Mount Allison (13-4). Tip-off is set for 11:00am.
