
Mounties Sweep Doubleheader Against Tommies
(Sackville, NB) The St. Thomas Tommies were back in Sackville on Sunday to take on the Mount Allison Mounties for the second half of the weekend doubleheader in ACAA Women's Basketball action.
St. Thomas got the early lead in the first quarter courtesy of quick baskets from Kylee Roi and Katie Vidito. Mount Allison responded with a big three from Kate Filmore to cut into the lead. St. Thomas had a 50% field goal percentage in the period and were up 14-8 after one quarter.
The Mounties were able to get their offense going in the second quarter. Amelia Mitchell was able to knock down 6 quick points, with some nice passing from Emma Roberts. The Tommies couldn't keep their hot shooting percentage going, as they only managed to score 5 points in the second quarter. Mount Allison went into half time with a 22-19 lead.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle to break through offensively. St. Thomas was able to take away space on their defensive end with smothering pressure, with Mount Allison getting in passing lanes and forcing turnovers in their end. Briana Bartley hit a three for the Tommies late in the quarter to cut into the Mountie lead. Emma Roberts was able to score for the home side to end the third quarter in a 27-27 tie.
The Mounties were able to get their offense going in the fourth quarter again with 5 points from Katie Feasby. Paige Leblanc responded for the visitors with a big bucket off a turnover. Jillian Mumford put the game away with four late free throws for Mount A. The final score was 42-37 for the Mounties.
St. Thomas (8-8) is back in action Friday, February 14th at home against Crandall, tip-off is set for 6:00pm. Mount Allison (12-4) is back at home on Saturday, February 15th against UNBSJ, tip-off is set for 6:00pm.
