
Second-Quarter Surge Leads Hurricanes over Mounties
The Mount Allison Mounties women's basketball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon looking to build on their 4-1 record against the Holland Hurricanes.
Lauren Armstrong would come out strong in the first quarter with 12 of her team's 16 points in the frame on 5/9 shooting. Haley Hemphill would open things up for the Mounties in the first quarter with 5 points, but Mount Allison would trail 16-12 at the end of the quarter.
Holland's offense would come alive in the second quarter thanks in part to 7 turnovers from the Mounties. Amy Plaggenhoef would lead the way for the Hurricanes with 7 points in the quarter. Ava Godfrey would have 5 in the period for Mount Allison but the visitors would jump out to a 22-point advantage at the break, ahead 43-21.
Mount Allison would start to turn it around in the third quarter with Haley Hemphill leading the way with 6 points in the quarter. Amy Plaggenhoef would continue to have an impact for Holland as they would lead 55-39 at the end of the third quarter.
In the Mounties strongest quarter of the game, Jillian Mumford would lead a comeback that would bring the home team within two possessions, however it would not be enough as Holland, led by Alexa Rancourt in the quarter, would go on to win by a score of 65-58.
Holland (4-1) return to action on the road in Halifax on Saturday, November 23rd against MSVU with tip-off set for 4:00pm. Mount Allison (4-2) head to Moncton to take on Crandall on Saturday, November 23rd with tip-off set for 2:00pm.
