
Mounties Drop Home Battle to King's
The Mount Allison Mounties women's basketball team, ranked #4 in the nation, returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as they played host to the UKC Blue Devils.
Both teams got off to a similar start in the first quarter and traded leads to a tie at 15-15 at the end of the frame. King's were led by a balanced attack fueled by their bench while Jillian Mumford led the way for the Mounties with 6 points.
Lindsay Black would start to get going for the Blue Devils in the second quarter with 8 points while Emma Roberts and Amelia Mitchell would each have 6 in the quarter for Mount Allison as the teams would play to another tie at the end of the half, returning to the locker rooms deadlocked at 36.
UKC would get the better of the home side in a strong defensive quarter for both sides. Arek Akeg led the way for the visitors with 6 and Kate Fillmore would have 4 for the Mounties as the Blue Devils led at the end of 3, 50-47.
Alex Soyko and Riley Macdonald would hit big shots down the stretch for the Blue Devils and have 14 of the 21 fourth quarter points for the visitors. Emma Roberts and Sadie Bowen each had 6 in the frame for Mount Allison but it would not be enough as UKC would take this one by a score of 71-63.
UKC (2-1) are back in action tomorrow afternoon in Halifax as they play host to Crandall at 1:00pm. Mount Allison (3-1) travel to Fredericton to take on St. Thomas, tip-off in that one is also set for 1:00pm.
