UKC Picks Up Road Win at Mount Allison
The Mount Allison Mounties women's basketball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium for the first time in 2024 this afternoon as they played host to the UKC Blue Devils.
The Mountie women came out strong in the first quarter led by 7 points on 3/3 shooting from Lauren Furlong and 6 points from Danielle Alexander in the first frame to lead the Blue Devils 17-13.
UKC would respond in the second quarter with 5 points from Jenna Bain and 5 from Vayda Well-McCaughen. However, Lauren Furlong would continue her hot shooting adding another 7 points in the frame to help the Mounties retain the lead by a score of 31-29, heading into the half with a two-point advantage.
The Blue Devils would ramp up the defense in the third quarter holding the Mounties to just 10 points and having a balanced scoring attack to take a 4-point advantage into the fourth quarter, leading by a score of 45-41.
Jenna Bain led the way the entire afternoon for the Blue Devils, and was the closer down the stretch for UKC, putting in 7 points in the fourth quarter to put the home Mounties away, as King's would end up coming away with a 61-52 victory.
UKC (8-1) are back on action on the road against the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics on Saturday, January 20thwith tip-off set for 2:00pm. Mount Allison (7-3) return to the court Saturday as well, as they travel to UNBSJ to take on the Seawolves, with tip-off set for 6:00pm.
