The Mount Allison Mounties came very close to defeating the defending champion Holland College Hurricanes at home on Friday, falling 87-84.
The Mounties, who enter the Christmas break in 4th place at 3-3 on the season, led 44-30 at halftime. The Hurricanes chipped their way back into the game early in the 3rd quarter and eventually to the lead late before hanging on for the win.
2016 ACAA Rookie of the Year Kiersten Mangold led the Mounties with a career best 22 point performance for the Mounties. Mangold was 10-16 from the field and she also led the Mounties with 16 rebounds. Sophomore Kate Ollerhead had 17 points while junior Erin Steeves had 14 points.
The Hurricanes were paced by Jayla Verney with 29 points.
