2024 UNB Invitational Recap

At the UNB Invitational meet in Saint John this past weekend, our Mounties Women's team placed 3^rd over UNB & Memorial, with Dal & MUN placing 1^st and 2^nd respectively. This move up in the AUS rankings shows big improvements, not just from our leading point scorers but from everyone on the team who raced hard to contribute.  Leading the point score for the women was Jordan Thomas with 62 points, taking with her top-3 placings in the 200 Breaststroke and the 100 Breaststroke. Lauren Griffin-Lepine racked up 44 points overall which included a 3^rd place finish in the 1500 Free, swimming this tough event for the first time in her career. Senior Haley Fitzgerald also raced this event, with a 5^th place finish making them the 3rd top point scorer with 34 points overall.

On the Men's side, our Mounties placed 4^th overall ahead of Memorial. Top point scorer was Sebastian Cariaga, with 59 points overall. In the very competitive 50 Freestyle eliminator, Seb placed 3^rd overall. This was an exciting event and was definitely a highlight of the meet. The top-8 qualifiers from heats raced together, with two Mountie swimmers, Sebastian and rookie Ian Steinwall Pennington both making the cut. Two swimmers were eliminated after each heat - Ian was out with a 7^th place finish, while Sebastian made it through three heats to finish 3^rd overall.

With five weeks of training before AUS Championships, our Mounties continue to improve!
