2023 Kemp Fry Swim Meet Recap
Mounties swimmers competed at the Kemp Fry AUS Invitational last weekend, hosted by Dalhousie. This meet is our first opportunity this season to step up and perform rested – and perform we did!
Our women's team produced some stellar performances. Leading the point score with 63 points, was Jordan Thomas, who swam to 2 Silver Medal performances in the 50 & 100 Breaststroke, a Bronze in the 200 Breast, and a 4th place finish in the 200 IM. Jordan also broke her own team record in the 100 Breaststroke.
Also scoring in the A Finals were Allison Gauthier, Lauren Griffin-Lepine, Aaron McDonald & Andrew Kuiper.
Big improvements came from Griffin-Lepine who set 4 lifetime best times. Gauthier also made big improvements in the backstroke events and is closing in to qualify for USport Champs in March, along with Thomas, who was just off the USport qualification standards in breaststroke. Rachel Chan, Megan Jones, Miki Williston, Jane Gurney and Kenzie Power all showed significant improvements, while on the men's side, John Roberts took off time in all the breaststroke events.
In relay action, the Women's 4 x 100 Medley relay team (Gauthier, Thomas, Gurney & Churchill) took the UNB team, and were a close 4th just behind Memorial Seahawks. All other Mountie relay teams placed 5th.

Men's team captain Sebastian Cariaga was missing from action here as he was away racing in the Quebec Cup, looking to post best time in a long course meet format in order to try to qualify to represent Bolivia for the 2024 World Championships in Doha. Seb's 100 Freestyle was a best time performance, placing him in a better position for international team selection.
Both Men's And Women's teams placed 5th overall, with the Women trailing UNB by less than 30 points overall. Our next competition will take place in late January, with UNB hosting at the Saint John Aquatic Centre.
