2023 Subway AUS Championships – Day 2 Recap
The Mounties continued their solid showing at the 2023 Subway AUS Championships in St. John's, Newfoundland. On Day 2, Mountie swimmers posted 16 seasons best times and competed in 18 Finals.
Leading the Women's team on Day 2, first-year Jordan Thomas continued her great swimming this weekend. She raced to a silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:12.91 breaking the Mount Allison school record in the progress. The former school record stood at 1:13.89, set by Katya Parker in 2019. In addition to her silver medal performance, Jordan leads the Mounties with 34 points through two days of competition. Also leading point-getters on the women's side are first-year Lauren Griffin-Lepine in the 400m IM (18 points), senior Abigail Flann in the 50m butterfly (18 points), first-year Megan Jones in the 100m breaststroke (12 points), and first-year Makayla Churchill in the 50m backstroke (18 points).
On the Men's side, third-year Sebastian Cariaga continues to lead the Mounties in competition, securing an 8th place finish in the 50m backstroke. His 27 points through two days are tops on the Men's side. A number of men stepped up and secured strong showings in finals, with Tristan Raine securing a 10th place finish in the 400m IM (7 points). Andrew Kuiper churned out a season's best while swimming to a 12th place finish in the 50m backstroke, as did John Roberts, securing a 13th place finish in the 100m breaststroke. Also contributing valuable points on the men's side is Ryan Duggan (9 points).
Both the men's and women's 4x200 Freestyle relays finished in 5th place.
Both teams are currently sitting in 5th place heading into the final day, as competition wraps up.
