Mounties compete at 2022 AUS Swim Championship
The Mount Allison Mounties are off to a strong start at the 2022 Subway AUS Swimming Championships hosted at Dalhousie University March 11-13th.
At the end of Day 1, a total of 13 season best times were posted by our swimmers and 14 Final appearances were made. Currently leading the men's team with 15 points is Sebastian Cariaga. Cariaga placed 4th in the 50m backstroke with a time of 27.05. Not far behind with 11 points are Andrew Kuiper and Willem Pretorius. Kuiper swam his way to an 8th place finish in the 50m backstroke while Pretorius also claimed 8th in the 200m Freestyle. On the women's side, Abigail Flann is currently the top point scorer with 15 points after an exciting 4th place finish in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:05.28. Paige Piche adds to the tally with 7 points after a 9th place finish and personal best time of 1:19.44. The women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay swam to a 5th place finish while the Men's relay – who dropped 7 seconds from their posted time in November swam to an exhilarating 4th place finish.
Notably, the preliminary session ended with an exciting time trial of the men's 4x50m medley relay. Andrew Kuiper, Oliver Keith, Ethan Scheerer and Sebastian Cariaga claim a new Mount Allison Record in the 4x50m Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.09. The previous record of 1:49.97 was set by Geraint Berger ('18), Iain Crowell ('19), Dylan Wooley-Berry ('17) and James Kwan ('18) in January of 2017.
Both Men's and Women's teams both currently sit in 5th place heading into Day 2 tomorrow.
