StFX proves too much in Mounties home opener
Final | 1 | 2 | T |

Mount Allison (0-4-1, 0-4-1) | 0 | 0 | 0 |
(SACKVILLE, NB) Mount Allison played host to the Nationally ranked X-Men on Friday evening in AUS Men's Soccer action. StFX's quality proved to be too much as they would ride a four-goal 1st half and go on to win 5-0.
Kyle Cordeiro (Oakville, ON) opened the scoring for the visitors in the 23rd minute as he took the pass off a flick of the head from teammate Isaac VanWychen (Middle Musquodoboit, NS) and buried it into the net. Moments later Cordeiro would repay the favour as his through ball found Jack Kennedy (Antigonish, NS) who split the Mounties defense and make it 2-0 X-Men.
StFX would add another two goals within two minutes of each other as usual suspect VanWychen's shot from in tight found the crossbar and fell to Nicolas Goldsztein (Winnipeg, MB). Kyle Cordeiro would add his second of the game after the ball fell to his feet off a scrum in front of Mount Allison's keeper. With his two goals and assist in the first half, that would be more than enough to grant Cordeiro Player of the Game honours.
The second half would prove much less hectic as both teams made multiple substitutions. Logan Rieck's (Cambridge, ON) 50th minute rebound off the post would prove to be the game's final goal and all but seal the win for StFX.
Mount Allison (0-3-1) will look to get back on track as they host Moncton on September 22 at 7:15 p.m. for the first of two games on Homecoming weekend.
StFX (3-2-0) for their part will look to continue their wining ways as they travel to play Dalhousie on September 23 for a 3:15 p.m. kick-off.
