The Mount Allison men's soccer Mounties travelled to Newfoundland to open the 2021 AUS men's soccer season. After missing all of last season, the Mounties returned to regular season action with pair of losses agains the host Memorial Seahawks.
After a 3-0 loss on Saturday, the Mounties jumped on the board first Sunday thanks to a nifty strike by Will Fenton in the 29thminute. That was quickly answered by a nice run by the Sea-Hawks Jacob Grant to tie the game less than a minute later. Then almost 2 minutes later the Sea-Hawks found the back of the net yet again, thanks to a beautiful converted header off a corner kick by Zachary Visser. Memorial entered the half up 2-1 over a Mount Allison team that looked much better than they did in Saturday's match.
Sea-Hawks captain Harry Carter fired home a beautiful penalty in the 64th minute to give the home team a comfortable lead, a strike by Emmanuel Dolo from the top of the box in the 69thminute extended the Sea-Hawks lead to three goals. Dolo added two more goals in the 78thand 90th minute, adding a hat trick in both games this weekend.
Despite surrendering 6 goals, Mounties goalkeeper Rhys Chambers was outstanding yet again, making multiple huge saves inside of the box. Chambers made 8 saves on the game and was one of the more impressive players from this weekend's series.
In exhibition play prior to the start of the season the Mounties defeated UdeM 1-0 at the Moncton stadium.
