The Mount Allison Mounties ended the 2016 AUS men's soccer season with a 6-0 loss to the AUS defending champion UNB Varsity Reds at Alumni Field on Saturday.
UNB got off to a quick start when Marcus Lees gave the visitors a 1-0 just 3 minutes into the game. Lees struck with his 2nd goal of the game just 13 minutes later to give the Varsity Reds an early 2-0. This score would stick until half time.
In the 2nd half UNB got two goals from Tom Pheulpin in the 47th and 49th minutes and two goals from Yosua Niyonkuru in the 56th and 89th minutes of play.
UNB will now host the 2016 Subway AUS Men's Soccer championship in Fredericton this coming weekend. The Mounties will miss the playoffs.
Prior to the start of the season finale on Saturday the Mounties recognize graduating players Mario Hennessey (Moncton, NB), Anthony Maddalena (Halifax, NS), Seiwa Yanagi (Warabi, Saitama), Drew MacCormack (Falmouth, NS), Curtis Michaelis (Dartmouth, NS) and Matthew Poole.
