The Mount Allison men's soccer Mounties lost a close 2-1 game to l'universite de Mouncton on Wednesday in Moncton. The loss has the Mounties on the outside looking in for the AUS playoffs with 5 games remaining, but the teams ahead are still very much within reach.
After the first 8 games of the season the Mounties sit in 10th place with a record of 2 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie for 7 points. However, the AUS standings are really bunched up above the Mounties and the 6th and final playoff spot is only 1 point away while 4th place is only 3 points away.
At Moncton, rookie Regan Lynch scored in the 55th minute to tie the score at 1 after Moncton had taken the lead in the 26th minute. The tie didn't last long as Moncton struck again four minutes later to go ahead 2-1 and that margin would stand as the final score.
The Mounties go back to work on Sunday, October 5th as they host UPEI at 3:15PM at MacAulay field. Other remaining games include 2 games at Memorial, a road game against UNB and the final home game of the season against Acadia.
