What better way to end your very first AUS men's soccer game in your hometown than to score the winning goal in extra time. That's exactly what Sackville's Jaryd Morrissey did today as the freshman Mountie scored in extra time to give the Mounties a 1-0 win over StFX at MacAulay field. The Tantramar High School product joined the Mounties this year and was playing in only his 2nd AUS regular season game.
The Mounties played a tenacious 90 minutes against a talented StFX squad and a few key saves from Mounties' Keeper Makenzie Hill deep into the 2nd half kept the home squad in position for Morrissey's late game heroics. The win was a big one for a young Mounties squad, a team that graduated eleven players in 2013.
This leaves the Mounties at 1-1 after the first weekend of the season. On Saturday, the Mounties lost 3-0 to the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax. The Mounties will now gear up for a trip to Charlottetown Friday night when they take on UPEI on 7:15PM. The Mounties return home to host Saint Mary's on Sunday.
