When the Mount Allison Mounties Men's soccer team hits the field this fall it will be a very different looking team from the last couple of years. With a large graduating class in 2013, Mounties soccer will see the next wave of talented players take their place within the program.
"Losing 11 players last season made for a very busy off-season for us, especially with regards to recruitment," commented third year Head Coach Roy Chineh. "Through our efforts, we were able to recruit a number of quality individuals to complement the solid core of players we have returning. We are confident going into the season that we have the right mix of players to steer our program in the direction we want."
Leading the group of returning Mounties will be 3rd year Maritimers Cale Saunders (Bridgetown, NS) and Federico Mora (Fredericton, NB). Moncton native Mario Hennessey had a strong rookie campaign in 2013 and looks to build on this success heading into 2014. The Mounties will also have experience in goal with 4th year keeper Greg McGuire (Summerside, PEI) leading the way.
The Mounties open the 13 game regular season on Saturday, September 6th as they travel to Dalhousie. They return home the next day to open the home schedule as they host StFX at MacAulay Field at 3:15PM. Another big date on the calendar is Friday, September 19th when the Mounties will host Université de Moncton at 7:15PM as part of Mount Allison's Homecoming weekend.
The Mounties will be looking to improve on last year's 9th place finish and make their way into one of the AUS's 6 playoff positions. This year's AUS Men's Soccer Championships will be held at Memorial University in Newfoundland.
