
Big First Half Lifts Seawolves Over Mounties
(Sackville, NB) The UNBSJ Seawolves took on the Mount Allison Mounties in ACAA Men's Basketball action on Saturday in Sackville.
The Seawolves got the upper hand early with a quick three from Ernest Vovk. The Mounties struggled offensively in the opening minutes, with a few possessions coming up empty in a row. All five starters got in on the scoring for UNBSJ as they opened a 15-8 lead after one quarter.
The second quarter really opened the game up for the visitors. Ben Power was 4/6 from the field with 8 points in the quarter for UNBSJ. Mount Allison got some scoring from Brennan Devereux but couldn't shrink the lead. Doyle Burton put up 6 points of his own for the Seawolves as they went into the half up 38-15.
The third quarter saw the Mounties dig into the lead. Rashawn Ferguson led the way with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Ryan Norris chipped in with 6 points of his own. Ethan Szemerda was the leading scorer for the visitors in the quarter with 6 points. Mount Allison out-scored UNBSJ 21-15 in the quarter but were still down 53-36 after three quarters.
The fourth quarter was a flurry of scoring for both sides. Jack Fury-Miller had 7 points and 2 assists for the Seawolves in the quarter. Devereux and Norris were the high scorers for the Mounties with 5 points a piece. Both sides traded buckets in the middle portion of the quarter. The lead was too much to over come for the Mounties as the final score was 78-55 for UNBSJ.
UNBSJ (10-7) are back in Sackville tomorrow to complete their regular season against Mount Allison (1-16), tip-off is set for 1:00pm.
