Tommies Beat Mounties In Sackville
(Sackville, NB) The St. Thomas Tommies were in Sackville Friday night to take on the Mount Allison Mounties in ACAA Men's Basketball action.
The Tommies got off to a hot start in the first quarter, River Lanz led the way with 12 points. Ryan Norris helped the Mounties get on track with six points. A pair of big threes from Vincent Lyttleton and Caleb Scholten pushed St. Thomas to a 24-13 lead after one quarter.
The second quarter started with another big push from the visiting side. The Tommies shot 50% from the field for the quarter. The Mounties got some big baskets from Jonas Munroe to pull within 8. St. Thomas was able to increase their lead courtesy of Evan Valanne and Noah McCarthy, who combined for 17 points in the quarter. The Tommes were up 51-29 at the half.
The third quarter was played relatively even by both sides. Caleb Scholten hit a pair of threes for the Tommies to maintain their lead. The Mounties found some offense from Rashawn Ferguson, who put up 7 points in the quarter. After three quarters, St. Thomas led 65-41.
The fourth quarter saw the home side out score the visitors 11-8. Both teams traded fast breaks and turnovers, but neither was able to score many points or get much offense set up. The final score of the game was 73-52 for the Tommies.
St. Thomas (7-8) is back in Sackville on Sunday, February 9th to take on Mount Allison (1-14) to complete the double header. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
