
Mounties Celebrate First Win of Webber Era
The Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as they played host to the UKC Blue Devils with each squad looking for their first win of the season.
UKC would get out on a 12-0 run to start this game and would end with 23 points in the quarter led by 8 from Kibrom Kefte. The Mounties would claw back from down 12 to within 3 by the end of the quarter thanks to strong play from Jonas Munroe and Rashawn Ferguson. The Blue Devils would lead 23-20 after 1.
Mount Allison's offense would pick up in the second quarter thanks to more offense from Rashawn Ferguson with 7 in the quarter and Kibrom Kefte would continue his strong half by knocking down two more three-pointers for the Blue Devils in the quarter. The Mounties would head into halftime ahead by a score of 43-37.
The Blue Devils would come out strong in the third quarter with a balanced offensive attack and holding the Mounties to 16 points in the frame, however 5 key points from Brennen Devereux at the end of the quarter would help the Mounties retain their lead 59-57 at the end of the third.
Keith Rowen would lead a 33-point outburst for Mount Allison offensively in the fourth quarter with 11 of his own. Kevahn Taylor would have 9 in the frame for UKC but it would not be enough as the Mounties picked up their first win of the Mitch Webber era with a 92-80 victory.
Mount Allison (1-3) head to Fredericton tomorrow to take on the St. Thomas Tommies with tip-off set for 3:00pm. UKC (0-3) return home to Halifax to take on Crandall tomorrow afternoon, with tip-off set for 3:00pm.
