Alberta guard Deng Deng joins the Mounties for 2023-2024
Mounties Head Coach Steve Chapman continues to add depth to the 2023-2024 Mounties roster with the recent commitment of 6'4 PG Deng Deng of Brooks, Alberta. Deng will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree this Fall.
Deng has been a significant asset of the St. Joseph's Collegiate basketball program since his freshman year. This year, averaging 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists per game, Deng was selected first team All-Star in the SEBC and played an integral part in his team earning a silver medal in the Alberta provincial finals. According to Chapman, "Deng is a pretty diversified player who we feel can really flourish at the guard position in the ACAA. He is athletic with length, facilitates well while also being a very good scorer. In addition to being fundamentally sound, Deng is a really tough defender with a strong work ethic. These are all really nice qualities to have so we are pretty excited with Deng's decision to attend MTA this Fall."
Paul Daley, a long time coach in NB and presently coaching in Alberta speaks highly of Deng. "Through his leadership, work ethic, and positive attitude, Deng developed as a player but also as an exceptional role model to our younger players this past year. He excels both on the court and in the classroom and we are confident that this trend will continue as he moves to the next level. We are so proud of his decision to attend Mount Allison and know he will be a positive addition to the school and its basketball program."
On his decision to join the Mounties this Fall, Deng noted, "Mount Allison is a perfect place for me to grow as a student athlete. I wish to assist my future teammates with strong leadership and communication skills."
Deng joins a handful of previously committed players to the Mounties including 6"1 Keith Rowen of Ottawa, 6"0 Kaden Augustin of Ottawa, 6"5 Quincy Bowen of Brantford and 6"5 Ryan Norris of Ottawa.
Welcome Deng!
