Mounties use big second half to beat MSVU and move on to ACAA semi-final
(FREDERICTON, NB) Coming in as the fifth seed in the ACAA Men's Basketball quarterfinals versus the third seeded Mystics the Mounties put together a very efficient second half on route to a decisive 104-86 win.
After having sat out the last three games of the regular season, ACAA scoring leader Noah McCarthy (Grand Falls, NB) could not miss as he led the Mounties offensively with 32 points, five rebounds and two assists. Later on in the evening during the ACAA Basketball Banquet McCarthy was deservedly named a First-Team All-Star.
Other notable contributors for the Mounties were Jonas Munroe (Moncton, NB) and Emanuel Adugna (Toronto, ON) with 19 and 18 points respectively. Tim Ellison (Halifax, NS) would go on to register another double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds) and add two blocks. Mount Allison would register 46.4% from field goals, 43.8% from the three-point line and a whopping 86.7% from the free-throw line.
MSVU for their part were led by First-Team All-Star and CCAA All-Canadian Will Spaulding (Halifax, NS) who registered a game-high 43 points on 15-of-25 field goal percentage. Despite shooting over 47% from the field MSVU could not establish a secondary scorer to go with Spaulding's incredible offensive performance.
Mount Allison moves on to face the hometown Tommies tomorrow, March 4 at 5 p.m. in the first of two semi-finals. The winner will play in the Championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
