Mounties close first half of the season with two wins in a row
The Mount Allison Men's Basketball team won its second consecutive road victory with a convincing 98-70 win this past Sunday over the host UNBSJ Seawolves. The Mounties now head into the Christmas break with a record of 3-4 with their next action not until the second week of January when their ACAA league play resumes. The Mounties went 8-6 overall including exhibition play.
On Sunday, the Mounties overcame a sluggish start trailing 21-19 before rallying to take a narrow 45-41 lead at the half. In the third it was all Mounties with a 32-point outburst while holding the Seawolves to 17 points over the quarter. The Mounties pushed the lead further in the fourth out scoring their opponent 21-12 and the game's final outcome of 98-70 in favor of the garnet and gold. 6'10 Tim Ellison of Halifax, NS had his best game as a Mountie scoring 27 points on an impressive 12-17 from the floor including two three's along with collecting 10 rebounds. Four other players hit for double digits including Jonas Munroe with 16, Noah McCarthy 14, Emanuel Adugna with 13 while freshman forward Rashawn Ferguson added 10 in his second consecutive start of the season. Austin Brun led the Seawolves (0-7) with 15 while Adam Lambert had 13 and Ethan Szemerda netting 12.
According to Mounties head coach Steve Chapman, "it was good for our team to finish with a couple of much needed wins heading into the break. We did not have a great month of November and we did not play well enough to win the games we lost. We kind of survived as a young team and at times, thought we were pretty fragile and not very confident. At the same time, we have much work to do and simply have to get better learning the lessons from both our losses and wins. The league is balanced and we need to get back in the discussion second semester. I know we will be right there in March. While appreciative of the MTA staff and local schools to accommodate us in challenging times, we look forward to getting back on our own floor and a fantastic new facility."
