Mounties announce Gabe Powter to join Men's Basketball program in 2022-2023

The Mount Allison Men’s Basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Gabe Powter to its roster for the 2022-2023 season. Gabe is a Grade 12 student at Almonte District High School in Almonte, Ontario and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology this Fall.

Powter has been a multi-sport athlete throughout his scholastic career including volleyball, tennis, soccer, and track and field, winning several individual awards and MVP honors along the way.   This past season, the athletic 6’6 forward was a key member of his high school basketball team the Almonte Thunder. Powter has also played on several club teams in the Ottawa area including the Naismith Basketball League, Ottawa Next Level and presently with the Scott Meeson coached, Brockville Blazers of the OBA and CYBL. Meeson, who also coached present Mounties Sam Pierson and Mason Helkaa, added, “I am thrilled Gabe has chosen MTA to pursue his post-secondary academic and basketball aspirations. He is an outstanding student and with his length and athleticism, he has the potential to be a very reliable and consistent contributor for the Mounties. I have every confidence that he will have a great career under the guidance of Coach Chapman and his staff”

According to Chapman, “we are really excited Gabe chose Mount Allison. With his height, length, and athleticism, as well as his ability to play more than one position, Gabe’s attributes certainly fit our mold and style of play. He ticks off a lot of boxes of what we are looking for in a student athlete to strengthen our roster moving forward. We have a nice returning group and Gabe’s skill set and competitiveness will fit in nicely as they develop together as a group over the next few years.  We are very pleased he will be on campus this September”

Powter too is excited with his decision. “I loved the campus and chose MTA for its close, tight knit community feel. The strong academics paired with the opportunity to play basketball there make it a great fit for me. I am looking forward to being a Mountie this September"
