Mounties End the Hurricanes Winning Streak!
It was a very successful and winning weekend for the men's basketball Mounties; prevailing with two key ACAA game wins!
At Mount Allison on Saturday the Mounties won 93-67 over the HC Hurricanes and on Sunday the Mounties trounced the UNBSJ Seawolves 104-58. The Mounties opened this 2019-20 ACAA season with 0 Wins and 2 Losses and then most recently won three consecutive games; moving them into a second place tie in the parity filled ACAA.
On Saturday, the men's basketball Mounties used a balanced scoring attack en route to the 93-67 win over nationally ranked Holland College and snapping the Hurricanes' impressive run of 38 straight wins in ACAA league play. With a narrow 39-36 half time lead the Mounties blasted in 30 points in 3rd quarter and held those Hurricanes to 14 points. The Mounties held the lead 69-50 as they headed into the final quarter. Transfer guard, Noah McCarthy led the Mounties with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while Brett Curtis added 15 points and 5 assists. Sam Pierson took a double-double, adding 14 points and 11 rebounds, Diangelo Woodside added 12 points and Emmanuel Adugna came off the bench to top it up with 11 more points.
On Sunday the Mounties avenged an earlier season loss to the UNBSJ Seawolves with a dominant 104-58 road win in Saint John; earning them their 3rd straight ACAA win. With th Mounties leading 54-29 at half, ten different Mounties hit the score sheet during the team's most impressive offensive performance of the year. Brett Curtis completed this great weekend with 22 points and 7 assists against the Seawolves, while Noah McCarthy once again showed his offensive efficiency by adding 16 points. Sam Pierson added 14, Emmanuel Adugna 12, and Ite Adekeye 11; to round out the top Mountie scorers of the game.
The Garnet and Gold have two remaining games before holiday break and both are in the friendly confines of the McCormack gymnasium. This Friday night (Nov 22) at 8pm, our second place Mount Allison men's basketball Mounties (3-2) are set to host the current 1st place Crandall Chargers (4-1) in an important ACAA tilt.
A large and boisterous crowd is expected and every Mountie supporter and fan is encouraged to attend and cheer our Mounties on as they attempt to move into a first place tie before their final game in advance of exams; hosting their Nova Scotian arch-rival, the MSVU Mystics, on November 30th.
