Red Hot MOUNTIES WIN 5th Straight Game – Move to Top 10 National Ranking
On Saturday the men's basketball Mounties extended their ACAA winning streak to five games, following a home court victory of 83-69 over their Nova Scotian arch-rival MSVU Mystics.
The Mounties head into exams and the holiday break in sole possession of the ACAA FIRST PLACE rank and 5-2 record. The Mounties, who started the season with two back-to-back league losses in early November, have now rattled off five straight victories and first place honors in the ACAA.
- The Men's Basketball Mounties also moved to the "Top 10" for the CCAA's weekly National Rankings.
Holland College (4-2) is the only other ACAA team rank falling this week from 8th to 13th after their weekend loss to the StU Tommies (4-2) 85-76.
In competition against the MSVU Mystics on Saturday, it was another strong showing in the fourth quarter when the Mounties broke open a close 57-52 contest during the game's final ten minutes; outscoring the visiting MSVU Mystics 26-17. The Mounties, who led 37-28 at the half, once again had several players contribute significantly to the teams balanced attack.
Third-year Mountie, Brett Curtis, led the scoring with 23 points and four rebounds, while James French came off the bench to add 19 points of his own and grab 7 rebounds. The leading rebounder in ACAA right now is Diangelo Woodside; who continued with solid play and the addition of 12 points and 17 rebounds. First-year Mounties guard and Torontonian, Emanuel Adugna, added 10 points, second-year 6'6 Sam Pierson complimented the teams attack with 9 points and 10 rebounds, while Fredericton native, Noah McCarthy added 8 points. Mo Abukar led the Mystics scoring with 21 points while former Mountie, Brody Blakney, had 20.
The Mounties will resume practice on January 2nd, 2020; following exams and the holiday break.
First Team ACAA All–Star, Team MVP and the Mounties 2018-19 Lead-Scorer, Aram Currie, is expected back in the Mounties lineup January 5, 2020; for a home exhibition game against University of Maine – Machias Clippers; thereafter, the men's basketball Mounties resume ACAA league play on January 11th at UNBSJ.
