At 6:00 pm on Saturday (Oct 19) the Mounties play tournament hosts, the StU Tommies and then wrap up on Sunday (Oct 20) at 12:00 pm versus Champlain College-Lennoxville of Quebec. This tourney is garnet and gold’s second tournament of exhibition season, having just completed a swing to Montréal to compete in the Dawson Fall Classic.
During the Dawson College Fall Classic tournament Coach Chapman utilized 12 players and ended with a 67-65 loss to John Abbott College. It was the Mounties first game of the season and they fell behind 22-7 at the end of the first quarter; then couldn’t quite recover from the 15-point deficit. In the final seconds of the game the Mounties missed two shots which could have forced the game into overtime. The Mounties outscored John Abbott in the three remaining quarters with scoring led by new comer Diangelo Woodside at 12 points, Aram Currie with 13 point and Brett Curtis with 10 points.
On the same day they played Quebec powerhouse, Brebeuf College. The Mounties were much sharper than their first game, jumping to an 8-0 lead and never trailed going into the half; up 38-31. The Mounties maintained a slim lead all the way into the fourth when Brebeuf opened up their first lead of the game, 73-70. In the game’s final 90 seconds Brebeuf prevailed with a win over the Mounties of 77-72. Power forward Diangelo Woodside again led the Mounties scoring with 27 points, Aram Currie added 11 points and James French 10 points.
The Mounties completed the Dawson Fall Classic with a 92-69 win over La Cite College from Ottawa. James French scored 28 points to lead the Mounties; who broke the game open with a dominant offensive push in the fourth quarter and nailed their first win of exhibition season. Rookie point guard Emmanuel Octavious played 28 minutes scoring 11 points, Emanuel Adugna 11 points, Diangelo Woodside 10 points and Ite Adekeye scored 7 points in the Mountie victory. The team is very appreciative of the solid turnout of family, friends and Mount Allison University Alumni of the Montréal area who came out and supported Garnet and Gold all weekend.
