First-place men's basketball Mounties notch 6th-straight ACAA win!
The Mount Allison Mounties men’s basketball team started the second half of the 2019-2020 season with an 89-67 win over the hometown UNBSJ Seawolves; Saturday at the G. Forbes Elliott AC.
For the nationally ranked tenth-place Mount Allison men’s basketball Mounties, this game is the sixth-consecutive win in the ACAA and improves their first-place standing; with a 6-2 record. The Seawolves fell to a 1-6 record.
The leading Mounties were 39-27 at half-time; with five team members in double figures being led by high-scorer Sam Pierson with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. James French also had a double-netting 16 points, 3 assists and hauled down 10 rebounds. Rookie-guard, Emmanuel Octavious continued his fine play off the bench; scoring 10 points and dishing 7 assists. Once again, Aram Currie is back in uniform and drained 3-three’s and a game total 10-points, while rounding out the Mounties score were Emanuel Adugna with 10 points, Noah McCarthy’s 8 points, Brett Curtis’ and Ite Adekeye’s 6 points each along with Trevor Schulz adding 2 points and 3 rebounds.
The Mounties men’s basketball team now face a tough stretch in their schedule this week. They are travelling to Moncton on Wednesday to play their arch-rival, the 4-4 Crandall University Chargers, at 8:00 PM. On Sunday, the Mounties will return home and face the 3-4 MSVU Mystics at 4:00 PM in the Mount Allison University Athletic Centre; McCormack Gymasium.
