Mounties earn another split in ACAA league play
The Mount Allison men's basketball team went 1-1 over the weekend to improve their overall ACAA record to 9-5, good enough for a 3rd place standing with only a month left in regular season play. On Sunday in the friendly confines of their home court, the Mounties over came an early deficit in the first half and once again in the second half to defeat the University of Kings College Blue Devils 86-75. Aram Currie continued his sizzling post Christmas play scoring 27 points on 10 of 15 FG shooting and 4 of 5 from 3pt land to lead the Mountie charge. Jeshua Becker added 13 points while Seongwoo Park and Brett Curtis added 11 and 10 respectively. Without the services of starting forward James French and first year forward Sam Pierson incurring a first quarter injury, it was the Mountie bench who played a key role in securing the home court win with key performances from first years players Matt Baker and Ite Adekeye as well as third year forward Matt Tanton.
Sundays win was much needed after a tough road loss on Saturday 68-64 to second place Mount Saint Vincent Mystics in Halifax. The Mounties and Mystics low scoring affairs was a physical defensive contest with many lead changes throughout. The Mounties led 20-15 after the first quarter, 36-31 at half and 49-48 entering the final quarter before giving up their lead in the dying minutes. Aram Currie led the Mounties with 16 points, forward James French added 15 and Brett Curtis provided 11 in the tough road loss.
The Mounties look to get healthy for a key weekend of games as they look to maintain their hold on 3rd place with only 7 games remaining in regular season play. On Friday the Mounties host the vastly improved Dal AC Rams in a 8:00pm start while on Super Bowl Sunday the Mounties head down the road to play the UNBSJ Seawolves in a 4:30 start.
