Mounties escape with OT win over Dal AC Rams
The Mens basketball Mounties narrowly escaped with a win over a determined hometown Dal AC Rams team for their 12th win in ACAA conference play in a closely fought 102-86 overtime victory on Saturday.
The Mounties overcame a second quarter 17 point deficit to defeat the Rams to maintain their second place hold in the ACAA. The Mounties, now 12-3 in conference play, used a 23-7 scoring outburst in overtime to emerge victorious after the two teams were locked at 79 after 40 minutes of play in regulation.
The Mounties were led by Thomas Legallais with 30 points, 8 assists and 7 steals. Brad Sanford added 20 and 7 rebounds while Rod Joseph added 11 points and a season high 16 rebounds. Aram Currie and Jeshua Becker scored 12 and 11 points respectively for the garnet and gold, who have yet to lose a road game in ACAA conference play this year.
The Mounties only have 6 league games remaining with 3 home games and 3 road trips left before ACAA playoffs March 2-4. This weekend the Mounties host the Kings College Blue Devils of Halifax this Saturday at 4:00pm and then their NB arch rival St. Thomas Tommies come to the McCormack gymnasium the next day in a 4pm start. The Mounties last home game of the year will be on Feb 24 when they host the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics of Halifax. This will be the last home game for graduating seniors Brad Sanford, Kellan Duke and Rod Joseph.
