Mounties Athletics Celebrate 67 Academic All-Canadians/National Scholars
Mount Allison University Athletics are very proud to celebrate 67 student-athletes who were named U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians or CCAA National Scholars during the 2019-20. This represents 30% of all varsity student athletes across Mount Allison's 9 varsity sports.
"We're very proud of this accomplished group of student athletes who have done an exemplary job of combining their commitment to academics with a commitment to performing at the highest level within their sport," commented Mounties Director of Athletics and Recreation Pierre Arsenault. "Our list of Academic All-Canadians and National Scholars includes student athletes who were MVPs in their conference, league champions and league finalists. This is also a group of student athletes who are at the very core of who we are as a Mounties family."
To be a U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian, a student athlete must achieve a GPA at 3.5 or higher. The 2019-20 list of U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians includes 9 football student athletes, 9 women's hockey players, 3 men's soccer players, 10 women's soccer players and 9 members of the Mounties swim program.
For the CCAA, Academic All-Canadians must have GPAs of 3.5 or above and they must also have been recognized as conference All-Stars and/or conference major award winners. CCAA National Scholars are student athletes who have achieved GPAs of 3.5 or above.
Sam Pierson (men's basketball) Sophie Landry (women's volleyball) and Rachel McDougall (women's volleyball) were recognized as CCAA Academic All-Canadians. In addition, the Mounties family had 5 national scholars from the badminton program, 2 from men's basketball, 7 from women's basketball and 13 from the women's volleyball program. This is a remarkable accomplishment for a women's volleyball team that also finished as ACAA silver medallists in 2019-20.
