Mounties Football Head Coach Peter Fraser Signs 3-Year Extension
(SACKVILLE, NB) Coach Peter Fraser has signed a three-year contract extension to remain as the Head Coach of the Mount Allison Mounties Football program through the 2027-28 season. Coming off four straight playoff appearances, including a Loney Bowl in 2022, Fraser has continued to build the program into a perennial contender in the AUS. In 2023, the Mounties finished third in the Atlantic University Conference, securing a spot in the Semi-Final game with Bishop's University. The football success has translated to the highest level, with three former Mounties being drafted into the Canadian Football League under Coach Fraser (Lucas Cormier, 2nd Round, Ottawa Redblacks; Reece Martin, 4th Round, Hamilton Tiger-Cats; and Matt Watson, 6th Round, Saskatchewan Roughriders). The Mounties have been equally successful off the field. In 2022, the football team had sixteen Academic All-Canadians, a significant increase from three in 2018 when Coach Fraser took over the team.
"Coach Fraser has shown an unparalleled desire to improve our Mounties Football program since he first took over in 2018." Athletic Director Jacques Bellefleur adds: "The overall team culture has never been so positive with our coaching staff instilling in these young men important values such as integrity, respect, accountability and leadership. Our football student-athletes are stewards of the game but also contributing members of our campus community, the Town of Sackville and surrounding Tantramar Municipality."
The competitiveness of the team continues to improve and this contract extension offers the opportunity for Coach Fraser to continue focusing on the core players currently on the roster, but also look to another four-year recruiting cycle.
An Oromocto, New Brunswick native, Coach Fraser graduated from the University of Ottawa where he played defensive line for the Gee-Gees. His U SPORTS coaching resume includes time at McGill, Acadia, and Windsor University before joining the Mounties in 2018.
"I look forward to continuing to build the foundation of the program through 2027," said Coach Fraser. "We have made some significant strides towards a sustainable program here at Mount A and it is important to me that New Brunswick has a strong university football program. My wife Crystal, my son CJ and I enjoy living in Sackville. We would like to thank our players, coaches, support staff, the university, and the Athletic Director for committing to the current direction of the program."
Coach Fraser and the coaching staff are hard at work recruiting the 2024-25 class while they look forward to bolstering the lineup in preparation for next season.
