The Mount Allison Mounties lost 49-4 to the Laval Rouge et Or in CIS interlock play on Saturday at Alumni Field. This was the first trip to New Brunswick for Laval since playing in the 2013 CIS semi-final game, the Uteck Bowl, at Mount Allison.
CIS #3 ranked Laval picked up 16 points in the opening quarter of the game and then continued to build their lead as the afternoon went on. The Rouge et Or opened the scoring three minutes into the game when Dominic Levesque connected from 30 yards out for his first of four field goals on the day. Laval stretched the lead to 10-0 four minutes later when quarterback Hugo Richard hit Antony Auclair for a 25 yard touchdown. Laval would pick up a safety, another Levesque field goal and a rouge point on a missed field goal to finish the scoring in the first quarter.
Mount Allison's defense forced Laval to a safety early in the 2nd quarter to put the first points on the board for the home side. The Mounties other points came from a kick off through the end zone for a single point by Ryan Lambert and a rouge point off a missed field goal.
Laval's Richard had two rushing touchdowns, one from 8 yards and the other from 5 yards and he also threw for two touchdowns. Richard finished the day 24 of 37 for 292 yards. Richard threw one interception that was picked off by Mounties junior Nate Rostek.
Freshman Mounties quarterback Jakob Loucks continued to show his potential, completing 14 of 32 passes for 171 yards against one of the top defenses in the country. The longest pass of the day came on a 37-yard completion to Jarred Rawlings. Rawlings finished the day with 3 catches for 50 yards while sophomore Mountie Josh Hicks of Moncton, NB also had 3 catches for 43 yards. The Mounties return to AUS action this coming Saturday (October 1st) when they host the Acadia Axemen as part of Homecoming celebrations. Kickoff will be at 2PM and the game will include a special ceremony at the start to celebrate all alumni and supporters who helped allow for new bleachers, press box and scoreboard at Alumni Field.
