Mounties Secure Hard-Fought Win over MSVU
The Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team returned to the McCormack Gymnasium on Friday evening for a battle with the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.
Both teams went back and forth in the first quarter with the Mystics taking a 1-point advantage into the second quarter by a score of 15-14. Chase Tynes got going early for the Mount with 7 points early on, Eddie Surur led the way for Mount Allison with 4.
The closeness of the game continued as MSVU took just a 2-point advantage into the halftime break by a score of 35-33. Jaxon Smith led the way for the Mystics with 7 points and Tim Ellison got himself going with 8 points in the frame.
Defense was the story of the third quarter as neither team scored more than 11 points. Mount Saint Vincent would carry a 3-point advantage into the fourth quarter as 46-43 was the score line after 3. Jaydan Smith had 6 in the frame and Tim Ellison chipped in another 4.
The home Mounties, trailing most of the night, would not be denied however as their offense had their best quarter of the night – scoring 25 including 9 from Ryan Norris and 8 from Jonas Munroe. Adam Callaghan did his best to keep the Mystics in it with 8 points of his own, but the visitors would fall by a score of 68-64.
