Mounties drop late one in home opener

The defending ACAA Men's basketball champions had their 2021 home opener go right down to the wire before losing 78-76 against Crandall Friday night.

The Mounties, playing a regular season ACAA game at home for the first time since February 2020, got off to a quick start by building a 27-21 lead in the 1st quarter. The Mounties solid play continued, as they took a 44-36 lead into the halftime break. Crandall inched closer throughout the second to set up a dramatic finish that saw the Chargers win the game with free throws as time expired.

Noah McCarthy led all Mounties with 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting, including 2 of 5 from the 3 point line. Freshman Jonas Munroe had 16 points and 2 rebounds for the home side.

Brett Curtis led all Crandall scorers with a game high 23 points. Curtis was part of the Mounties 2019-2020 ACAA Championship winning team. After graduating from Mount Allison, Curtis is playing his final year of eligibility while he takes Education at Crandall.
