Mounties make history at 2017 ACAA Basketball Championship
For the first time since joining the ACAA basketball conference over 20 years ago, the Mount Allison Mounties men's basketball team is headed to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national champioship.
On Sunday the Mounties kept a home crowd of more than 800 fans on their feet as they pushed the defending league champions, the Holland Hurricanes, to the limit. In the end, Holland defeated the Mounties 81-70 to claim their 5th straight ACAA men's basketball championship.
The Mounties advanced to Sunday's final by defeating the Crandall Chargers 83-59 in Saturday night's 2nd semi-final. With their semi-final win, the Mounties punched their ticket to the 2017 CCAA Basketball Championship to be held March 15th-18th at Holland College.
The Mounties were once again led by ACAA Rookie of the Year Thomas LeGallais who had 21 points for the Mounties on 7 of 14 shooting from the field. Senior Alex Chisholm, playing in his last game at the McCormack gymnasium, added 16 for the Mounties while senior and ACAA 2nd team All-star Bradley Fuller added 13 in his final home game.
The Mounties will now prepared for their first ever trip to CCAA Nationals with a week of practice. The Mounties will head to PEI on March 14th and the garnet and gold will see their first game action on March 16th.
