Mounties win second consecutive CFL Passing Showcase
(EAST HANTS, NS) The Mounties football team travelled to the East Hants Sportsplex on St. Patrick's Day for the 2023 CFL Passing Showcase. The CFL Passing Showcase is for AUS teams to play 7-on-7 in a touch football tournament with first and second year players. It is designed to help with skill development and game-like competition for younger student-athletes.
The Mounties finished the round robin stage with two wins and one loss, which put them in first place heading into the playoff round. After beating Acadia in the semi-final, the Mounties played St. Mary's in the final. In a close game, Mount Allison was able to pull out the win 31-19.
Offensively, Nolan Cheeseman led the tournament in scoring with eight touchdowns and three conversions, and on the defensive side of the ball Owen O'Neal consistently made plays and had multiple interceptions. This marks the second consecutive CFL Passing Showcase that the Mounties have won. The team is looking forward to Spring training camp and will use this as added motivation as they work towards their Spring Game scheduled for 1 p.m. on April 23 at Alumni Field.
