Mounties advance to ACAA championship game with 3-1 win over STU
The Mount Allison Mounties wild run at the 2020 ACAA Volleyball Championships continued with a 4 set win over the #2 ranked St. Thomas Tommies in semi-final action on Saturday. With the win, the Mounties have earned the chance to play in the women's championship game in their home gym against the Holland Hurricanes on Sunday.
The first set was close as both teams found themselves tied at 8-8, 18-18 and 20-20. Down 22-20 the Mounties found a late push, winning 5 straight points to take the opening set 25-22.
The Tommies responded by grabbing an early lead in the 2nd set. The Mounties fought back to lead for the first time at 15-14. Tied at 22, the Tommies took their turn for a late set push, winning 25-22 to even the match at 1 set apiece.
The Mounties got off to a quick lead in the 3rd set, jumping out of the gate with a 9-4 advantage. But as the set wore on the score tightened again and the teams found themselves tied 20-20. From there the Mountie exerted their will and finished off a 25-22 win.
The Mounties once again got into a hole early in the 4th set but fought back to take the lead as the set wore on, eventually claiming match point and a 25-20 win for a 3 sets to 1 victory.
Hannah Millier, who had 10 kills was named player of the match for the Tommies. Jadyn Boyles had 9 kills and 6 service aces to earn player of the game honours for the victorious Mounties.
The Mounties now advance to their first ACAA women's volleyball championship game since winning the title in 2010. They will play the Holland Hurricanes at 12PM in the McCormack gymnasium on Sunday.
