(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Women's Basketball team kicked off the home season with a 68-50 win over St. Thomas on Saturday night. For the Mounties, it was the first regular season action away from their home gym this Fall as McCormack gymnasium continues to undergo renovations.
The Mounties got off to an early start, taking a 22-15 lead by the end of the 1st quarter and a 38-30 lead into the locker room at halftime. The injury deprived Tommies tried to cut into the lead but the Mounties were able to steer things home for the win.
Third-year forward Reese Nowlan (Miramichi, NB) led the Mounties with 22 points in just 16 minutes. Nowlan was 7 for 12 from the field, including 3 of 6 from behind the three-point line. Abby Miller (Mt. Denson, NS) added 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Mounties on 7 of 12 shooting.
Charlie Connors led all Tommies scorers with 12 points as she went 3 of 7 from the field.
Mount Allison (1-0) will travel to PEI on November 4 to play Holland for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
St. Thomas (0-1) for their part will play host to UNBSJ on November 6 at 12 p.m.
